Avon Pier Water Temperature

Avon Pier reaches past the first bar and out over the second, which is what makes it work — you can fish the wash for pompano and whiting off the near end and cast for Spanish mackerel and kings off the end on the same trip. Sitting north of the Cape, it runs cooler than Hatteras through spring, so the Spanish show here later than they do south of the Point.

Temperature Lines

Where each temperature meets the coast, measured along the shoreline.

  • 68°60 mi north
Not moving consistently enough this week to give a rate
  • 72°61 mi north
Not moving consistently enough this week to give a rate

Positions are where the temperature crosses the coastline, interpolated between sensors. Rates are fitted over a week so a few days of upwelling cannot masquerade as a trend.
