The Story
Made on the Coast. Tied for These Waters.
Baitn' Shack started the way most things around here do — on the water. After years of fishing the OBX surf, the inlets, and the nearshore waters around Hatteras, I got tired of buying rigs that fell apart on the first cast and jigs that were tied by someone who'd never seen a pompano in their life.
So I started tying my own. Same mindset I bring to rod building — use quality components, build it right, test it before it goes anywhere near the water. A pompano rig tied with 40lb mono, properly snelled hooks, and floats that actually stay on. A bucktail jig poured with a hook that won't straighten on a big bluefish.
Everything that ships from Baitn' Shack is built by hand, tested before it goes in a bag, and designed for the specific species and conditions of these coastal waters. Not mass produced. Not dropshipped from overseas. Tied on a bench twenty minutes from the water.
Hand-Poured
Every bucktail head is poured in-house. We control the weight, the hook, and the quality — no voids, no cold shuts.
Pull-Tested
Every knot and every crimp gets pull-tested before it goes in a bag. If it doesn't hold on the bench, it won't hold on a fish.
Local Knowledge
The rigs and colors are based on what actually works here — Hatteras surf, OBX inlets, and the waters between the dunes and the deep.
Built at the Shack
The same bench where we tie rigs is where we build custom rods — surf rods, inshore sticks, pier rods. If you want a rod built for how you fish these waters, not pulled off a rack, we can do that too.
