Drum on the Point, Trout in the Grass — Week of June 29

Cape Hatteras Point is sitting at 80.8°F and fishing like late June should. NE wind 8-18 stacking bait against the bar, and the Diamond Shoals current is doing the rest. Work the Pompano Hi-Lo with sand fleas or Fishbites through the morning low at 03:49 into the 08:42 high — that incoming push is when the pompano line up in the trough. Drum will eat a fresh cut mullet on a Fish Finder Rig through the afternoon low at 15:41 and into the 21:41 high tide. Bluefish are scattered but mixed in. Heads up — that NE 17 overnight is going to put a chop on it.

Avon Pier same tide swing, same water temp. Spanish are showing on the second bar in the mornings — gotchas and small bucktails over the rail at first light before the wind builds. King rigs out to the end with live bluefish or menhaden if you can get them. Pompano in the wash on the incoming, same Hi-Lo setup. The 08:42 high mid-morning is your window before it gets crowded and breezy.

Hatteras Inlet is where I'd be if I had a skiff. Flounder are staging on the channel edges — drift a Flounder Carolina Rig with a finger mullet or mud minnow through the outgoing into that 15:41 low. Drum working the flat edges on the early incoming, throw a Topwater Stick Bait 4" at first light before the sun gets on the water. NE 22 is the catch — pick your lee.

Oregon Inlet's running cooler at 75.7°F, which is keeping the flounder bite honest in the cuts. Bucktail Jig Yellow/Chartreuse tipped with Gulp on the bottom through the tide changes — the 14:29 low slack is prime. Sound side flats holding drum, work the grass edges on the 20:48 evening high with a topwater. Boat traffic will thin out by then.

Murrells Inlet is 84°F and the trout know it. Get on the water before sunup — speckled trout in the deeper holes on a Topwater Stick Bait 4" through the 01:56 low into the 07:41 high. Once the sun's up, switch to a Bucktail Jig Yellow/Chartreuse and slow-roll the channel drops for flounder. Redfish are tucked up in the spartina on the 20:09 evening high — wind's laying down to 2-6 by then, perfect for sight casting.

Folly Beach at 85.1°F is full summer mode. Whiting and pompano in the trough on a Pompano Hi-Lo with shrimp or Fishbites, work the incoming into the 08:07 high. Redfish in the trough at first light and again on the 20:42 evening high — Fish Finder Rig with cut mullet. Nearshore Spanish are around if you can get out past the breakers, throw a Bucktail Jig White or troll a small spoon. Light north wind today makes it as fishable as it gets.
