Drum, Pompano & Spanish on the Chew — Week of June 22

Cape Hatteras Point is fishing like summer. 82° water, south wind 10-17, and a slick of bait sliding around the shoals. Pompano are the meat and potatoes right now — work a Pompano Hi-Lo with sand fleas or fresh shrimp in the first slough on the falling tide. Best window is that drop from the 03:23 high down to the 10:25 low, get there before sunup. Bigger Red Drum are showing on the cut bait soak after dark — fish finder rig with mullet head on the back side of the bars through that 22:30 low into the overnight push.

Avon Pier is holding Spanish and blues hard on the second bar. Get a Bucktail Jig White out at first light and burn it back fast — that south wind is going to push bait tight to the pilings on the incoming. Pompano off the end on shrimp through midday. Kings have been showing in the afternoon — anglers on the T should have a Kingfish Wire Rig with a live bluefish out by 14:00 to ride that second high at 15:51.

Hatteras Inlet flounder are staging up on the channel edges. Flounder Carolina Rig with a finger mullet or mud minnow, drift the drop on the last of the outgoing — that 09:35-10:25 window is prime. Drum are working the sound-side flats early before the sun gets on them, throw a 4" Topwater Stick Bait across the grass edges at the 03:23 high. Oregon Inlet is the same story — flounder in the cuts, drum on the flats. Bigger tide swing up there (1.0ft) means more current, so bump up to a 1oz jighead on the Carolina rig.

Murrells Inlet is fishing textbook summer. 82°, 5+ foot tides, and the redfish are tailing in the spartina on the top of the 02:05 and 14:50 highs. Throw a Yellow/Chartreuse Bucktail or a weedless soft plastic right up against the grass. Flounder on the channel drops through the falling tide — get on it from 15:30 down through evening. Trout in the deeper holes early on a 4" topwater before the sun climbs.

Folly Beach surf is clean enough with that SW wind. Whiting and pompano on the Hi-Lo with shrimp, fish the trough on the drop from the 02:35 high. Redfish in the cuts and at the washouts — fish finder with cut mullet, especially that evening incoming pushing up to the 15:26 high. Spanish nearshore in the mornings if you can get out, Bucktail Jig White or small spoons.

Wind picks up a hair later in the week and we've got pop-up thunderstorms in the afternoons both states, so plan your tide windows around the morning if you can. Shack's stocked on sand fleas, fresh shrimp, and finger mullet. Come see us.
